Pelton Fell is joining with Bowls England to introduce more people to the sport of bowls. Anyone who would like to try out the game is welcome to have a taster session completely free and without obligation. Contact Brian on firstname.lastname@example.org or 07745474117 Any member who would like to bring along a friend is also welcome, either to have a taster session with Brian or just have a roll up on their own. Let's get rolling!
Tennis courts are closed The park is run by trustees who are voluntary, there is no paid staff. They are responsible for the operation of the tennis courts. In order for the courts to be made available for use they are required to ensure regular cleaning and disinfecting. They have informed us that, as there is no one available to regularly clean and disinfect the tennis courts, it would be unsafe to allow them to be used. The tennis courts and children's play area will remain closed until further notice. This situation is unlikely to change any time soon, but if it does it will be notified here. updated 25th June

Coronavirus Updates so far as at 3rd June: We are now allowed to play pairs and triples, with up to 6 players on each rink as long as social distancing rules are observed. Please continue to observe good hygiene practices.
From Wednesday 20th May, we are able to open the bowling green but in a very limited fashion. This is in no way a return to normal. There are quite severe restrictions imposed on what we are allowed to do and can do. Due to “social distancing” bowls cannot be a sociable pastime for the foreseeable future. It must not be used as a group meeting.
The club house facilities and the old pavilion remain closed; there will be no toilet or kitchen facilities. Mats and jacks can be obtained from the lock box on the veranda. Only 6 players on a rink and use alternate rinks. Maintain social distancing and sanitise hands and equipment. Bowls and shoes cannot be left in the clubhouse, they must be taken home. Only come to play bowls, don’t come to socialise.
The tennis courts and children’s play area remain closed and should not be used. This whole situation is not ideal and causes a lot of problems, so I must ask you to be tolerant and considerate to other members. Please stay safe and stay strong.
Pelton Fell Open Pairs This event is cancelled. We will keep contact details of those who have expressed an interest and contact you next season. Thank You. Contact Secretary on 0191 4107734
Please see the statement from Bowls England on their website. In short, all National and County competitions are cancelled. A refund will be given for entries and affiliation fees. Whilst it does not say so in as many words, the implication is that bowls should cease for the time being. Therefore I am not going to pussy foot around the situation any longer. Pelton Fell will not participate in any bowls leagues for this season, unless or until we are advised that it is safe to do so. For clarity that is Men's, Vet's and Ladies, afternoon or evenings. We will still maintain the green up to a point, as long as we are allowed. The club lottery will continue, but there will be no weekly members draw. Please read the statement. I will keep you informed of any developments as they arise. Please pass this on to those members not on email. I hope to see you all at the other end of this situation. Stay healthy, stay fit, and stay safe. Brian
Pelton Fell ladies held a coffee morning on Tuesday 3rd March, in Chester le Street chapel. This was in aid of their nominated charity for this year which is "Heel and Toe". This is a local charity based in Pelton which provides help and support for children suffering with cerebral palsy and other physical disabilities. They did very well raising around £300. Well done to everyone who helped in any way.
During the winter months Carpet bowls is played in the club pavilion. Casual bowls sessions are held on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, and all are welcome. They also play in the Durham and District Carpet Bowls league. Why not come along and have a go.
Ladies Lady bowlers required to play in lady only, and/or mixed leagues, as well as national competitions. Come along and have a go.
The bowls pavilion is available to hire for private functions, email firstname.lastname@example.org for details
We had a visitor to Pelton Fell recently. This lady is the daughter of one of our lady members. She plays bowls at National level. So don't give me reasons why you cannot play bowls.
The park is run by volunteers. If anyone is interested and available to help opening the park gates during the summer months, then please get in touch
